Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) is a convenient, widely used technology that is especially beneficial in locations where installation and power location concerns are an issue. By combining both power and data over one cable, PoE allows users to install and operate Ethernet-enabled devices without needing a nearby power outlet.
Specifying Power over Ethernet brings many advantages to an installation:

Flexibility - Devices such as IP cameras and wireless access points can be located wherever they are needed without the concern of a power outlet

Safety - PoE delivery is handled by switches and designed provide only the power required to operate the end device.

Dependability - PoE power comes from a central source and can and should be used with a UPS system to provide continuous operation even when the power goes out.
Modularity – Using PoE switches allows the user to add devices as needed and allows for future support on new devices coming into the market place, such as phones, Cameras, and access points.
Efficiency – Low voltage data cables do not require a certified electrician to install them.
